In 1993 when we moved to Bowmanville one of the home sites that we visited in search of our future home was the Kaitlin show home on hwy 57. The sales person there told us that the GO train will be coming to Bowmanville in the very near future. Well here we are 16 years later and finally some positive announcements are being made by the GO Transit. GO Transit earlier this month announced its decision to start the environmental assessment into extending train service from Oshawa to Bowmanville. The EA is to look into additional track requirements, a station location, layover facilities and other infrastructure to accommodate the extension. The potential increase to service is part of GO Transit's strategic plan, GO 2020.
Last summer, GO announced the EA process for such extensions had been streamlined.
When that announcement was made, Clarington asked that the new line follow the CPR rail line into the west Bowmanville development are, along the tracks west of Martin Road between Prince William Drive and Aspen Springs Boulevard. GO is also looking at a possibly less expensive CN route, which would mean the train would arrive in Bowmanville south of Hwy. 401.
One way or other it finally looks like the train is coming to Clarington. This will be a tremendous boost to the area.
